Special Educational Needs

Every child is different and unique in their needs. At Ashton House School we want every child to benefit fully from the education we have on offer. We therefore offer support as follows:

Gifted and Talented

We recognise that some pupils are exceptionally quick to learn and respond very positively to new and different educational challenges. Our specialist Enrichment teacher works with children across the school from Reception to Year 6, offering a programme of extension activities in numeracy and literacy. Children are assessed regularly and parents advised accordingly.

Learning Support

If it is felt, following assessment and observation by the class teacher and in consultation with parents, that a child would benefit from extra support in the key areas of numeracy or literacy, one to one or small group learning is arranged with teaching staff or external professionals. Individual education plans are drawn up and parents are kept fully informed of progress. Staff receive regular training in special educational needs and external professional advice is used if appropriate.

SEND Provision

At Ashton House School, we pride ourselves on producing independent, confident and happy individuals who have benefitted from a caring environment. They gain a wide range of experiences and have opportunities to develop their own abilities, underpinned by strong academic support.

Ashton House School is the perfect place for those young people who do not necessarily fit into the mould of mainstream education.

With small class sizes, dedicated teachers, learning support staff and bespoke social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) support we have our own unique approach to education.

Ashton House School is not a Special School and we have limited resources to be able to properly support ALL SEND children. However, young people with ASC and mild ADHD have the potential to flourish in our setting.  Each of these limited places is subject to a two-day trial and an assessment of the individual’s needs.

All of our staff receive regular SEND training and the school follows the SEND Code of Conduct in so far as meeting the criteria we agree to as an Independent School.

SEND Admissions:

We would advise, in the first instance, to email with any queries regarding SEND place availability at Ashton House. We will always endeavour to meet with parents to see if this might be the place for their child, but we are also committed to the best possible outcome for every child, so would never accept a SEND child without being sure that we could properly support and nourish them throughout their time here.

Those young people with EHC plans will be looked at on a case-by-case basis, dependent on trial days and our ability to meet their needs.

Please email admissions@ashtonhouse.com so we can start to assess whether we can be the right fit for your child.
